Ayra Starr is still riding high from her debut appearance at the 2025 Met Gala, and she’s finally spilling the story behind one of the night’s most iconic snapshots.
The 23-year-old singer, glowing in her Met Gala look, revealed that the now-viral photo—snapped in a bathroom with American stars Coco Jones and another R&B artist—was one of her favorite moments from the event. Even though Nigerian singer Tems was also in the shot, Ayra couldn’t help but joke that she was the first African to take a bathroom selfie at the Met Gala.
“First African to take a bathroom selfie at the Met Gala, period!” she quipped.
Ayra was part of a stunning wave of African stars who lit up the red carpet at the prestigious event, held on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Other notable attendees included Burna Boy, Tems, Tyla, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and stylist Swanky Jerry—each bringing their own bold statement to the fashion world’s biggest night.
In a separate moment of reflection, actress Nancy Isime opened up about her early struggles while trying to make it in Lagos. Sharing a personal story on social media, she credited singer Yemi Alade for stepping in to support her during one of her toughest periods.
Nancy, who began working at just 17, recalled her hustle as a model and usher—often traveling long distances from her home in Ikorodu just to earn a living.
From bathroom selfies at the Met to stories of resilience behind the spotlight, it’s clear that these stars carry more than just style—they carry stories worth hearing.
