The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced the commencement of this year’s ban on drumming and noise-making, scheduled to last from May 6th to June 6th, 2024.

The announcement was issued via a press release from the AMA, detailing specific guidelines aimed at preserving peace, harmony, and national security during the ban.

Churches are instructed to confine their activities within their premises without the use of musical instruments. Placing loudspeakers outside churches, mosques, and pubs is prohibited, and roadside evangelism is suspended for the duration.

Religious groups and Traditional Authorities are urged to exhibit mutual respect and restrain their followers from making derogatory or inflammatory remarks about each other’s beliefs.

The Ga Traditional Council (GTC) has additionally imposed a ban on funeral rites and associated activities during this period.

Enforcement of noise reduction measures will be conducted solely by a designated task force comprising AMA personnel, the Ghana Police Service, and representatives from the Traditional Councils. No other entities or individuals are authorized to enforce noise abatement measures in the metropolis.

The AMA calls upon all residents, communities, and villages within the Ga Traditional Area to fully cooperate and adhere to the directives throughout the ban.

For any clarifications regarding the ban on drumming and noise-making, the public is encouraged to contact the following hotlines: a. 0243211345 (GILBERT NII ANKRAH, AMA) b. 0244699095 (NII KLAN) c. 0549855811 (ASAFOATSE MANKATTAH) d. 0243338908 (NII ABOSE ASROKOJA)
