Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has responded to reactions surrounding his role as Odogwu Obiora in Omoni Oboli’s latest film, ‘Love In Every Word.’

The character, a wealthy Igbo man who showers his partner, Chioma (played by Bambam), with luxury and affection, has sparked mixed opinions among viewers.

While many, especially female audiences, celebrated the role as a reflection of how a caring partner should behave, some male viewers criticized it, arguing that it promotes unrealistic financial expectations in relationships.

A social media user, @Himp2million, expressed his disapproval, saying, “Anambra men are not like this. The movie only appeals to women who fantasize about a man spending all his money on them.”

In response, Arukwe defended his character’s actions, emphasizing that providing for a partner is a sign of love and responsibility, not weakness.

He stated, “Taking care of your woman and spending on her doesn’t make you weak. It shows you’re responsible. Love is about supporting your partner, and if you have the means, why not?”

Similarly, Facebook user Chidozie Odogwudozilla Nnachor strongly criticized Arukwe’s portrayal of Igbo men in ‘Love in Every Word,’ where he starred alongside Big Brother Naija alum, Bambam.

According to Chidozie, Arukwe—who has previously spoken about struggles in the industry—has misrepresented Igbo men in a way that could take years to correct. He argued that the role reinforced a misleading stereotype.

Additionally, Chidozie took issue with Arukwe’s speech in the film, claiming that no Igbo man speaks in such a manner. He described the accent as “exaggerated and unnatural.”

As the debate continues, ‘Love in Every Word’ remains a topic of discussion, reflecting the broader conversation on gender roles and expectations in modern relationships.
