A proposed amendment to Nigeria’s constitution aimed at enabling diaspora voting has moved one step closer to becoming a reality. On Wednesday, the House of Representatives approved the bill during its second reading.
The initiative, jointly sponsored by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and lawmaker Sodeeq Abdullahi, focuses on revising the 2022 Electoral Act to allow Nigerians living abroad to participate in elections.
Initially passed for a second reading in July, the bill was directed to the Committee on Electoral Matters for review. Following its recent progress, it has now been handed over to the Constitution Amendment Committee for further deliberations and fine-tuning.
