Deputy Comptroller Emby Anukwara of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) has revealed that Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, was held in a “privilege cell” during his time at Kirikiri Prison. This disclosure came during a session with a House of Representatives committee investigating the conditions of Bobrisky’s detention.

Anukwara explained that Bobrisky’s placement in the special cell followed a medical examination that showed he had both male and female sex organs, requiring specific accommodations. This decision was made to ensure his safety and proper treatment during his incarceration.

The inquiry into Bobrisky’s imprisonment arose after a Lagos court sentenced him to six months for naira mutilation. Controversy surrounding his time in prison intensified after social media influencer Martins Ortse, also known as VeryDarkMan, leaked an audio clip in which Bobrisky claimed to have served his sentence in a lodge, thanks to the influence of a “godfather.”

Despite these allegations, an investigative panel found no evidence supporting Bobrisky’s claims of serving his sentence outside the prison. Addressing the committee, Deputy Comptroller Anukwara clarified the timeline of events, stating, “On April 12, 2024, Bobrisky was brought in around 10:30 pm, but due to the late hour, we couldn’t complete the necessary documentation. Given the uncertainty about his gender, I took proactive steps and placed him in a single cell in the privilege ward.”

Anukwara further explained that the following day, Bobrisky underwent a medical evaluation where it was confirmed that he had both male and female organs, justifying his placement in the privilege cell.
