Nigerian social media personality Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, appeared before the House of Representatives panel on Monday as part of an investigation into bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). The inquiry, led by the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, was triggered by accusations made by the blogger against the two agencies.
In a widely circulated video, VeryDarkMan claimed that crossdresser Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to the EFCC to drop money laundering charges following his extravagant naira-spraying incident in April. Bobrisky was later sentenced to six months in prison. The blogger also alleged that Bobrisky paid additional millions to receive preferential treatment while in prison.
Bobrisky has denied the claims and taken legal action against the blogger. Both the EFCC and the NCoS have launched their own investigations into the allegations.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has also called for the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to carry out an independent investigation into the matter, seeking clarity on the serious accusations made by VeryDarkMan.
