On Monday, March 6, the President, members of his government, and other dignitaries are expected to fly to Ho, the Volta Regional capital, for the 66th event.
It has been rotated across all regions of the country, and this year’s edition will be held in the Volta Region.

The annual event commemorates Ghana’s forefathers’ efforts to gain independence from colonial rulers several decades ago. However, Barker-Vormawor believes it is an ideal platform for expressing Ghanaians’ outrage and suffering under the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party government.

“Boo him louder than he’s ever been booed before in his life.

“Allow him to comprehend the trauma of his presidency.

Your forefathers fought in the American Revolution. When Nkrumah was imprisoned, Gbedemah was the sole survivor of the Revolution.

“On this Independence Day, your charge is to express on behalf of all of us, our national indignation to a person who represents Everything that Nkrumah will be repulsed by,” he wrote on Facebook on March 1, 2023.

Last year, both the President and his Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, were booed at different events by Ghanaians dissatisfied with the current administration’s economic crisis, mismanagement, and corruption, among other things. One such incident occurred in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region and the governing NPP’s world bank, where residents publicly humiliated the President.
