Sylvester Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for Bortiano-Ngleshie Amanfro, has urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to fulfill his commitment to Alan Kyerematen, as made back in 2007.
In the lead-up to the 2008 general election, Nana Akufo-Addo, who was a candidate at the time, acknowledged Alan Kyerematen’s support in preventing a runoff during his acceptance speech as the party’s flagbearer.
Nana Akufo-Addo was recorded on tape saying, “Alan, you will follow me.”
Sylvester Tetteh emphasizes that these words should be upheld by the President.
“In 2007, during a conference in Legon, among two leaders and eleven aspirants, none achieved a 50+1 majority, necessitating a runoff. Alan Kyerematen stepped forward and expressed, ‘For the sake of the party’s unity, I’ve set aside my presidential ambitions. I’ll back my senior colleague.’ What greater display of unity is there? Nana Addo then stated, ‘Alan, owing to your actions, it’s your turn to lead after my term.’ Both the heavens and earth bear witness, and now is the time,” the MP stated.
Sylvester Tetteh affirms that Alan Kyerematen is a presidential candidate that Ghanaians can support and vote for, thus influencing the choice of NPP delegates.
“The NPP has around 220,000 delegates and roughly 5,000 supporters. The total number of Ghanaian voters is about 17,000. So, our selection of a Presidential candidate won’t solely cater to NPP members. We will choose a candidate who resonates with Ghanaian voters. I urge delegates to consult Ghanaians on who is more marketable between Alan and Dr. Bawumia,” he emphasized.
He further elucidated that Alan Kyerematen deserves the presidency due to his dedication to trade and industry despite the setbacks of the present government.
“Industrialization holds the key to our country’s progress, and Alan is at the forefront of industrialization. Despite the challenges we face, all our substantial achievements owe thanks to Alan Kyerematen,” he remarked.
