President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced new appointments for key intelligence positions in Nigeria. The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) are set to see fresh leadership with the appointment of new Directors-General.
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed will take over as the Director-General of the NIA. With a distinguished career in foreign service that began in 1995, Mohammed has served in several significant roles, including as Director and head of the Nigerian mission to Libya. His extensive experience also includes postings in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and the State House in Abuja.
In a separate move, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi has been appointed as the new Director-General of the DSS, succeeding Yusuf Magaji Bichi. Ajayi, who has served as Assistant Director-General of the DSS, has held various important positions, including State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.
These appointments follow the resignation of the previous leaders of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new appointees will enhance the performance of these agencies and tackle Nigeria’s security challenges effectively. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The President also thanked the outgoing Directors-General for their contributions and wished them success in their future endeavors.
Former NIA Director-General Ahmed Abubakar resigned on Saturday, citing personal and family reasons. After a brief meeting with President Tinubu, Abubakar expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and confirmed his commitment to continue supporting national security issues.
