In Suleja, Niger State, six protesters have been reportedly killed and several others injured during a demonstration against economic hardships. The fatalities occurred as security forces attempted to clear a barricade on the Abuja-Kaduna highway, which had trapped motorists for hours.

Tensions escalated with the arrival of a reinforcement team. Yahaya Nda Isah, a local resident, was hit by a stray bullet while riding his bike near the Suleja Police ‘A’ division, where the protesters had gathered. His nephew told Daily Trust that Isah was not participating in the protest but was struck by a bullet intended to disperse the crowd.

Mallam Abu and three others were killed at the same location, while two additional people were shot at the Suleja Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna road.

Niger State Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun reported that some individuals also attempted to set fire to the Tafa LGA. However, police and military personnel intervened, dispersing the troublemakers and clearing the road and toll gate.
