On Thursday, police in Abuja used teargas to disperse protesters near the federal secretariat. This marked the beginning of a nationwide demonstration against economic hardship and rising inflation, known as “10 Days of Rage,” with the hashtag #EndBadGovernance.

As the protest gained momentum, heavy police presence was reported nationwide, with many roads becoming deserted.

In Kano, the protest took a dramatic turn as demonstrators set up a bonfire outside the Government House, where Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was expected to speak. The protesters, who had gathered from various parts of the city, ignited tyres, creating a large fire that intensified tensions.

In response, security forces fired gunshots and teargas to disperse the crowd, causing confusion and chaos as protesters scattered. Eyewitness Musa Abdullahi described the scene as calm until the bonfire sparked the aggressive response.
