President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja today for the United Kingdom, where he will begin a two-week vacation as part of his annual leave. According to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the two weeks will also serve as a working vacation, allowing Tinubu time to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms. Tinubu is expected to return once the leave concludes.
In other news, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has criticized the 30-day National Youth Conference recently announced by Tinubu during his Independence Day address. HURIWA expressed disappointment, stating that the initiative distracts from more pressing issues like the high cost of living.
Emmanuel Onwubiko, the group’s National Coordinator, argued that the conference is a superficial attempt to engage the youth without addressing the real problems they face. He highlighted issues such as poor infrastructure, economic challenges, and rising unemployment as more urgent matters that need attention.
HURIWA referred to the conference as a “cash-guzzling charade,” criticizing it for being ineffective and calling for the government to prioritize solutions that directly impact the lives of Nigerian youths.
