Nigerian Afrobeat icon Burna Boy is stepping into the world of Nollywood with his debut as executive producer of the upcoming thriller ‘Three Cold Dishes.’ Directed by Asurf Oluseyi, the film addresses the grave issue of sex trafficking.

‘Three Cold Dishes’ chronicles the journey of three teenagers who fall victim to sex trafficking and reunite after 13 years to seek vengeance. Burna Boy’s production company, Spaceship Films, co-founded with Bose Ogulu, will take on the role of executive producer. The film is a collaborative effort by Ifind, Alma Prods., Asurf Films, and Martian Network, with Black Mic Mac serving as co-producer.

This venture into filmmaking aligns with the expansion plans of Black Mic Mac, a production company established in 2023 by industry veteran Pape Boye and Logical Pictures. Focused on African and Middle Eastern talent, Black Mic Mac aims to develop a diverse portfolio of films and television series, positioning itself as a significant player in the African market, nurturing both emerging and established artists.

Burna Boy’s entry into Nollywood mirrors a trend of musicians venturing into the industry. Recently, Tiwa Savage made her mark as both star and executive producer of the feature film ‘Water and Garri,’ premiering on Prime Video on May 10, 2024.

The participation of prominent musicians like Burna Boy and Tiwa Savage underscores the deepening connection between Nigeria’s music and film sectors, reinforcing the country’s cultural impact on a global scale.
