Confederation of African Football President Patrice Motsepe recently revealed that Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy experienced an unexpected hiccup while traveling through Morocco ahead of a major Africa Cup of Nations event.
According to Motsepe, Burna Boy was briefly held by customs officials over concerns about his striking gold jewellery. The situation was quickly resolved after Motsepe personally stepped in to smooth things over.
“Burna Boy was stopped at the airport because of the heavy and beautiful gold jewellery he was wearing,” Motsepe explained. “I intervened, and the matter was resolved swiftly.”
Once the delay was cleared, Burna Boy went on to headline the TotalEnergies AFCON Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16, delivering a thrilling, high-energy performance that electrified the crowd. The show also featured Ghanaian star Stonebwoy and Moroccan talents Stormy and Jaylann, making it a night to remember for fans.
Meanwhile, Nigeria celebrated a sporting hero of a different kind. On January 17, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerged as the star of the Super Eagles, helping secure a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. After a goalless 95 minutes filled with near misses and VAR drama, Nwabali’s composure in the penalty shootout made all the difference, producing two decisive saves to hand Nigeria a hard-earned victory and a place on the podium.
Fans now eagerly await the AFCON final, where Senegal will face hosts Morocco in a clash that promises excitement and drama.
