Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a legal practitioner and former aide to ex-President John Mahama, has voiced her concerns over the scandal involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah, reinforcing allegations of corruption against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s NPP-led government.

Mogtari Bawa’s response follows an Accra High Court order instructing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to return Cecilia Dapaah’s seized funds within 72 hours.

The court’s decision stems from an OSP application to confirm freezing and seizure orders concerning bank accounts and assets at the former Minister’s residence.

This move aligns with section 3 of Act 959, which mandates the OSP to collaborate and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies.

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, addressing the media, stated that the case would be transferred to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Kissi elaborated, “A little over an hour ago, the Office discontinued its application pending before the High Court for confirmation of the seizure and freezing orders following the referral of the case to EOCO. The court directed the office to return the cash sums and unfreeze the accounts of an investment of Mrs. Dapaah within 72 hours.”

He emphasized that the OSP would closely collaborate with EOCO and maintain cooperation with the FBI.

Mogtari Bawah, echoing the prosecution’s stance, described the court’s ruling as bewildering for Ghanaians, emphasizing that the amount of money involved pales in comparison to any alleged corruption under former President Mahama.

In a subsequent statement, she criticized the OSP for halting what she deemed one of the most significant scandals, and an opportunity for the government to demonstrate its commitment to tackling corruption.

According to her, the government’s failure to combat corruption has labeled Akufo-Addo as an enabler.

She claimed that corruption allegations during Mahama’s tenure were driven by malice and a deliberate campaign orchestrated by the NPP, particularly Nana Addo and Bawumia, to besmirch his reputation.

She also highlighted Mahama’s victimization through prejudice and political propaganda, spearheaded by individuals driven solely by the desire for power.

Mogtari urged Ghanaians to be outraged by the mismanagement of the country and unite in the fight for change to rescue the nation from what she deemed a failed government.
