Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary: Chance The Rapper Expresses Concern Over D4L’s Absence.

This year’s celebrations for Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary have been quite significant, with various events honoring the genre’s remarkable journey. However, Chance The Rapper couldn’t help but notice the absence of D4L, the creators of the iconic “Laffy Taffy,” from these milestone events. The Chicago native took to Twitter on July 29 to express his dismay over the group’s missing presence in the event lineup.

“Just recognizing that D4L hasn’t graced a single hip hop 50 event yet. This is odd,” Chance tweeted, drawing attention to the legendary Atlanta-based snap rap foursome, including Fabo, Mook-B, Stoney, and the late Shawty Lo.

Fans also joined in, echoing Chance’s sentiments and showing agreement with his observation. One fan tweeted, “Honestly, yes,” while another praised the group’s musical prowess, saying, “Those album beats were INSANE.”

The absence of D4L at these special celebrations has left fans and artists alike wondering about the reasons behind it. Their contribution to the hip hop genre is undeniably significant, making their presence greatly missed by many.

On the other hand, a user countered Chance’s observation, stating that D4L has actually been present at several ATL events. “They’ve attended a few… Just weren’t looking closely. Atlanta’s been hosting them at their events,” the tweet read.

Beyond his Twitter musings, Chance has been fully immersed in refining his highly-anticipated album, Star Line Gallery. The “Cocoa Butter Kisses” rapper has been dropping hints that his upcoming music could be his most exceptional work yet.

Last weekend (July 22), Chance tweeted, “I promise I have the best upcoming album of all those with an upcoming album,” igniting excitement for the forthcoming release. In the context of Chicago slang, “merched” means “promised,” making his statement even more impactful. Fans are eagerly awaiting what promises to be a remarkable musical journey from the talented artist.

Chance The Rapper’s recent claim about his upcoming album has piqued curiosity among fans, especially considering the lukewarm reception to his previous release. However, the artist reassured his followers during an early June check-in on Audacy, stating that the new project is one he’s particularly proud of in terms of writing and artistic vision.

Titled “Star Line Gallery,” the album shares its name with the festival Chance and Vic Mensa hosted in Ghana’s Independence Square (also known as Black Star Square) in early January 2023. With the excitement building, fans eagerly anticipate Chance’s new musical direction and await the release of his highly anticipated album.
