The National Muslim Conference of Ghana, under the leadership of National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr. Nuhu Sharubutu, has presented a comprehensive ‘Muslim Manifesto’ containing 14 key points to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
During a gathering attended by NDC leader and flagbearer John Mahama, along with national party executives and some members of parliament, the National Muslim Conference outlined significant proposals from their manifesto.
Their suggestions encompass various aspects, including the establishment of STEM and TVET schools in all Zongo communities across Ghana’s sixteen administrative regions. They also advocated for amending the inter-state succession bill to align with Islamic principles of inheritance.

Furthermore, the Conference called for the construction of modern abattoirs meeting World Health Organisation standards nationwide, as well as the establishment of a permanent pilgrimage board to streamline the annual journey to Mecca.
Alhaji Inusah, the General Secretary of the Conference, emphasized the Muslim community’s belief in facing historical challenges of unequal opportunities.
Presenting the Muslim manifesto to all political parties was seen as a proactive step to prevent future neglect by political entities.
In response, NDC leader John Mahama recognized the alignment between many points in the Muslim Manifesto and the NDC’s 2020 People’s manifesto. He assured that the NDC manifesto committee would thoroughly review the Chief Imam’s proposals to ensure equitable benefits for the Muslim community.
Mahama pledged to decentralize the implementation of the STEM program in secondary education across all schools, rather than confining it to standalone campuses. He also committed to establishing a National Pilgrimage Authority to oversee pilgrimage activities in Ghana if elected in the 2024 general elections.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the NDC, Mahama thanked the National Chief Imam and his delegation for their visit and proposals. He assured them of his team’s keen interest in addressing their requests, acknowledging their proactive approach as instrumental in his role as the NDC flagbearer.
