Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has urged Christian couples to prioritize their romantic connection alongside their spiritual commitments. While addressing the significance of romance in marriage, Pastor Adeboye shared personal insights on how he and his wife, Foluke, keep their love alive with affectionate gestures, stating, “Anointing does not diminish romance.”

Through a heartfelt message on his X handle, Adeboye reminded couples that being devout should not take away the joy and intimacy from their relationships. He emphasized that marriage is a unique institution where romance between a man and a woman is celebrated.

“Some pastors neglect dates or playfulness with their spouses, thinking such activities distract from spiritual duties. But beloved, anointing does not replace the need for romance,” Adeboye said. He further referenced the Bible, noting how even Isaac, a man of God, showed affection towards his wife, Rebekah, as seen in Genesis 26:8.

Adeboye warned against allowing routine and life’s pressures to steal the fun from marriages. He encouraged couples to revive the connection they had before marriage or children came into the picture, reminding them to make each other a priority again.

He said, “Don’t become too rigid in your marriage. Make time with your spouse so enjoyable that you can’t wait to be together. The person you fell in love with is still the same; don’t let life’s distractions overshadow what you cherish in your spouse.”

Pastor Adeboye also suggested ways to keep the spark alive, including writing love notes, sharing poems, and calling each other by special pet names. He revealed that he and his wife still use pet names when they are alone, a practice that continues to bring smiles to their faces.

“When we are alone, we’re simply lovers, not Daddy G.O. and Mummy G.O.,” he said, encouraging couples to remain lovebirds like they were at the beginning of their marriages.

In closing, Adeboye highlighted the importance of romance in a fulfilling marriage. “One key to making your marriage feel like heaven on earth is to keep the romance alive,” he advised.
