Chelsea are poised to appoint Enzo Maresca as their fourth permanent coach in four seasons. Maresca, who has an extensive playing career across Europe with clubs like West Brom, Juventus, and Sevilla, began his managerial journey at Manchester City. There, he led the Elite Development Squad to a Premier League 2 title from 2020 to 2021.
In 2021, Maresca took the helm at Parma but was unable to secure promotion and was dismissed within the same year. He then returned to Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s assistant until 2023, when Leicester City appointed him as head coach. In his debut season at Leicester, Maresca guided the team to a triumphant return to the Premier League as EFL Championship champions.
This success has made Maresca a top target for Chelsea, who are seeking a replacement for the recently sacked Mauricio Pochettino. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 44-year-old Italian has agreed to join Chelsea for the 2024-2025 season.
Maresca is expected to sign a two-year contract with an option for a third year, pending an agreement on compensation with Leicester City. Romano confirmed, “Chelsea and Enzo Maresca are set to agree on contract terms. The final detail being clarified is whether it will be a two-year deal with an option for a further season or a three-year deal. Maresca has already committed to the Chelsea project; it’s now up to the clubs to settle on compensation.”
Fans eagerly await this new chapter as Chelsea aims to rebuild under Maresca’s leadership.
