Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit by Phillip Shaibu, the impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State, challenging the nomination of Asue Ighodalo as the PDP candidate in the upcoming Edo governorship election.

Justice Omotosho ruled that the case was statute-barred, having been filed outside the 14-day window allowed for pre-election cases under Section 285(9) of the Constitution. The judge also noted that although forgery or lack of a voter’s card can disqualify a candidate under Section 182, the plaintiffs did not prove that Ighodalo forged his voter’s card.
