Fights and public transportation have been disrupted in Mauritius as a tropical cyclone approaches.
At 07:00 local time, a “very intense tropical Cyclone Freddy has centered about 275km to the north-east of Mauritius,” moving west at a speed of 30km/h, according to the Mauritius Meteorological Services.
Wind gusts near its center were estimated to be around 300 km/h.
The weather service advised the public to take all necessary precautions and to remain in safe areas.
Air Mauritius, the country’s national carrier, issued a list of flights that had been canceled.
