“He died in his bed, and that is fantastic,” Nash says of his former bandmate.

Graham Nash has revealed new information about David Crosby’s death.

Following his death on Jan. 19, Crosby’s family stated that the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer died after a “long illness,” but did not elaborate on the cause.

In a new interview, the Crosby, Stills, and Nash singer claims that his former bandmate contracted COVID-19 for the second time before dying.

“He was rehearsing for a show with a full band in Los Angeles,” Nash explained on the Kyle Meredith With… podcast. “He felt a little sick after three days of rehearsals.” And he’d had COVID before, and he had COVID again. So he returned home and decided to take a nap.

Nash believed Crosby was fortunate to have lived as long as he did.

“I mean, the fact that he got to 81 was incredible,” he said. “However, [his death]came as a surprise. It felt like an earthquake, you know? You get the initial shock, and then you realize you’re alive. But the aftershocks kept coming, and they’re getting smaller as I go.”

Nash stated earlier this year that he and Crosby, who had been estranged for years prior to the pioneering folk-rockers death, were in the process of reconciling just before Crosby died.

“The truth is that we were getting closer at the end. “He had left me a voicemail saying that he wanted to apologize and that we could set up a time to talk,” Nash told AARP magazine in February. “I responded by email, saying, ‘Okay, call me at 11 a.m. tomorrow your time, which is 2 a.m. on the East Coast.'” He never called, and then he disappeared.”

Nash told AARP that he suspected Crosby was aware of his impending death. “Because of his liver transplant and all of his stents.” He was fitted with seven stents. “His body was really failing,” he said of Crosby, who had previously spoken openly about his long battle with drug addiction. “But, once again, all I can do is try to remember the good times, and we had a lot of them.”

Following Crosby’s death, Nash issued a statement on social media about his “friend” Crosby.

“I know people focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times,” he wrote on Instagram. “But what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered with one another, and the deep friendship we shared over all these many long years.”
