Nigerian music sensation Davido opens up about how his father acknowledged his burgeoning music career.

In an interview on Business Untitled, Davido reflects on his journey in the music industry, including gaining his father’s approval to pursue music.

The Grammy-nominated artist recounts the early days when he left school in Atlanta to return to Nigeria and pursue his passion for music against his father’s wishes. This decision led to a clash with his father, a prominent business figure, who even had him arrested.

Despite initial reservations, Davido acknowledges his father’s support and involvement in his music career. He shares how his father actively engages with his music, providing feedback on each track and even selecting songs for his albums.

Davido fondly recalls how his father gave him his stage name and humorously recounts the incident when he was arrested after his first unauthorized show in Nigeria at the age of 17. His father’s main concern was for him to complete his education before fully pursuing music.

The Grammy nominee highlights a pivotal moment when his father recognized the magnitude of his success: when his hit song ‘Dami Duro’ became the president’s ringtone. Although Davido doesn’t specify the president or country, it likely refers to former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who held office from 2010 to 2015.

Beyond music, Davido shares his aspirations as a businessman. He reveals plans for his production house, Coco House, which serves as a media hub for creatives. Additionally, he expresses interest in venturing into cryptocurrency.
