Donald Trump has called for the dismissal of the federal classified documents case against him following a report that found evidence of Joe Biden’s involvement in retaining and disclosing sensitive materials. Trump urged the Department of Justice to drop the investigation, emphasizing the need for unity in the country.

The remarks come in response to Special Counsel Robert Hur’s critical report, which scrutinized Biden’s handling of classified materials discovered at his private residences and former office locations. Hur’s report, spanning 388 pages, highlights Biden’s cooperation with the investigation and suggests challenges in securing a conviction due to his age and memory lapses.

Trump took to Truth Social to urge Special Counsel Jack Smith to drop all litigation against him, emphasizing the importance of national healing. He cited Hur’s report, which underscores Biden’s “willful retention” of important documents, as a basis for dropping the case.

In an additional statement, Trump condemned what he perceives as a two-tiered system of justice, contrasting his own situation with Biden’s. He asserted that Biden’s actions were criminal and called for the immediate termination of the case.

The Department of Justice has not yet responded to requests for comment. Hur pointed out key differences between Biden’s handling of classified documents and the allegations against Trump, including the latter’s refusal to return documents and alleged obstruction of justice.

Trump is scheduled to face trial in May 2024 for the federal charges against him. The findings of Hur’s report are expected to fuel attacks by Trump and Republicans against Biden leading up to the general election in November.

Concerns about Biden’s cognitive abilities have been raised, with polls indicating doubts even among Democrat voters about his fitness for office. Biden rejected criticisms of his memory during a press conference, emphasizing his recollection of personal events. Trump himself has faced scrutiny over his cognitive abilities, with recent incidents suggesting confusion over political figures and events.
