Former US President Donald Trump faced a surprising turn of events on Thursday as he was briefly held in a Georgia jail over allegations of racketeering and conspiracy. However, he was swiftly released on a $200,000 bond, and an iconic mug shot was taken during this process.
Trump’s stint at Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail lasted less than half an hour before he was escorted in a motorcade to the airport. The charges against him involve claims of collaborating with 18 co-defendants to manipulate Georgia’s 2020 election.
During his court appearance, the 77-year-old Trump was photographed in his mug shot, following the precedent set by other defendants who had already surrendered themselves.
In the snapshot taken at the sheriff’s office, Trump wore a solemn expression, donning a dark blue suit, a white shirt, and a vibrant red tie.
Within the confines of Fulton County Jail, Trump was assigned the inmate number “PO1135809,” marking his temporary stay.
Trump, who is a prominent contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, addressed reporters after his brief detention, characterizing the situation as a “very sad day for America.” He expressed his opinion that the events unfolding were a “travesty of justice” and maintained his innocence, stating, “I made no mistakes.”
Taking to his own Truth Social platform, Trump shared the photo of himself in the jail cell along with a comment that read “Election Interference” and a link redirecting to his campaign website.
