After President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered the 2024 State of the Nation address, the Minority in Parliament drew a striking comparison. They likened him to a reckless driver, suggesting that his governance steered Ghana into a catastrophic accident.

In his speech, the President highlighted the NPP government’s fulfillment of financial obligations, settling the last coupons owed to bondholders, amounting to GH¢5.8 billion. Additionally, he reassured Ghanaians of a forthcoming free and fair election in the December general elections.

President Nana Addo urged political parties to conduct their campaigns without hostility or hate speech. He emphasized Ghana’s industrial transformation, citing the successful implementation of the One-District-One-Factory policy, which has generated 170,000 jobs for the youth.

Before the address, National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama encouraged the Minority caucus to end their boycott, sparked by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, referring to them as hooligans.

Following the President’s speech, the Minority expressed dissent by calling him a reckless driver and chanting the local song ‘driver banzai’.
