The Edo State House of Assembly has announced the reinstatement of two suspended lawmakers, Donald Okogbe and Adeh Isibor, after a five-month suspension.
It can be recalled that on May 6, the assembly suspended Donald Okogbe (PDP-Akoko-Edo II), Adeh Isibor (APC-Esan North-East I), and Bright Iyamu (Orhionmwon South) over allegations of plotting to impeach the Speaker and other key officials.
Bright Iyamu was earlier reinstated in June after showing remorse, according to the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku.
At the assembly’s plenary session held in Benin on Wednesday, October 2, Speaker Agbebaku announced that the house had agreed to lift the suspension of the two remaining legislators.
He also congratulated the state’s governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, on his electoral victory, emphasizing that the governor-elect represents all citizens of Edo, not just members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Agbebaku expressed hope that Okpebholo would remain focused and not be swayed by sycophants.
Welcoming the lawmakers back from an extended recess, Agbebaku thanked them for their dedication to passing critical bills and resolutions. During the session, the assembly approved a schedule of 57 sitting days for the second quarter of its second session.
