Nine individuals believed to be involved in people smuggling have been apprehended by Greek authorities following the tragic sinking of a migrant boat earlier this week.

According to the Greek public broadcaster, ERT, all suspects are Egyptian citizens.

Families of the passengers onboard the ill-fated boat have gathered in the port city of Kalamata, desperately seeking information about their loved ones.

While over 100 people have been rescued, the death toll stands at nearly 80, and an estimated 600 individuals remain unaccounted for.

Although yet to be verified, there are reports suggesting that approximately 100 children may be among the missing individuals.
