Little has been seen of Emma Watson’s life and work since the premiere of Little Women in 2019. The former Harry Potter actress has always kept a low profile, especially since the end of the wizarding saga, but she has continued to work on various projects since her role as Hermione Granger from 2001 to 2011.

However, unlike her co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, the actress has not appeared in a television series or film in several years. But there’s a good reason he’s keeping his distance from the cameras.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Watson revealed the reason she hasn’t taken any roles in recent years:

“I wasn’t very happy, if I’m being honest. I think I felt a bit caged. The thing I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I really didn’t have very much control over. To stand in front of a film and have every journalist be able to say, ‘How does this align with your viewpoint?’. It was very difficult to have to be the face and the spokesperson for things where I didn’t get to be involved in the process. I was held accountable in a way that I began to find really frustrating, because I didn’t have a voice, I didn’t have a say.”

Fortunately for her fans, the actress also confirmed that she wants to resume her career:

“Yes, absolutely. But I’m happy to sit and wait for the next right thing. I love what I do. It’s finding a way to do it where I don’t have to fracture myself into different faces and people. And I just don’t want to switch into robot mode anymore. Does that make sense?”.

Watson’s first acting role was in Chris Colombus’ adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s successful franchise, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. She has since played Harry Potter’s best friend in eight films, as well as Margaret March in Greta Werwig’s film and Samantha Button in Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Just a few weeks ago, Warner Bros. Discovery made the big announcement that the Harry Potter saga will be adapted into a series that will air exclusively on Max, the company’s new streaming service that will leave “HBO” behind.

However, it is not the only project associated with the magical saga that could be released in the future. David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, has stated on several occasions that the company wants to capitalize on its major franchises, including the boy wizard. In fact, before the series was announced, he admitted that he wanted to adapt The Cursed Child for the screen.

The eighth book, which follows Harry Potter’s son Albus and Draco Malfoy’s Scorpius, would be an ideal project for Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Tom Felton to return to the franchise as adults.

While it appears that the majority of the actors are not interested in reprising their roles, there is still a chance that it could happen in the future. For the time being, fans will be able to meet new versions of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco in the previously announced series, which has no release date.
