Ethiopia says it is ready to resume trilateral talks with Egypt and Sudan to resolve outstanding issues concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (Gerd), according to the foreign ministry.

Mesganu Arga, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, made the remarks during a meeting with US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer.

“Regarding Gerd, he [Ambassador Mesganu] stated that Ethiopia is ready to resume the tripartite negotiations under the auspices of the AU,” the ministry said in a tweet.

The dam’s construction and operation have strained relations between Ethiopia and Egypt, necessitating a legally binding agreement on the dam.
