Ghanaian authorities have deactivated 6.1 million unregistered mobile Sim cards.

According to the National Communications Authority (NCA), the deactivated cards belonged to subscribers who had not completed the ongoing nationwide registration that began in October 2021.

According to Joe Anokye, the NCA’s director general, approximately 11 million active but unregistered subscribers will be deactivated from networks after the May 31 deadline.

He stated that over 25 million Sim cards have been fully registered across the country thus far.

The registration is part of the NCA’s efforts to combat fraud associated with the use of SIM cards in the country.
