In Nairobi, Kenya, a five-story building collapsed on Tuesday night, prompting a large-scale rescue operation coordinated by the Kenya Red Cross.
The collapse occurred in Uthiru, located on the outskirts of the city, with initial reports indicating that numerous individuals were trapped under the debris.
However, by Wednesday morning, the Kenya Red Cross confirmed that all tenants of the building had been safely located.
Ten others sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene, according to the aid agency.
Videos circulated online depicted the apartment block leaning to one side, alarming onlookers.
Bramwel Simiyu, Nairobi’s disaster management chief officer, reassured the public regarding four missing residents, including a 10-year-old girl, stating that all 34 residents had been found and were unharmed, as reported by The Star news website.
Mr. Simiyu explained that the building had been gradually sinking, allowing residents to evacuate safely.
Despite this, military sniffer dogs were scheduled to be deployed to ascertain whether additional individuals were trapped in the rubble.
The East African nation has been grappling with exceptionally heavy rainfall since March, resulting in the loss of 238 lives and the displacement of 235,000 people.
