Reports indicate that Burkina Faso’s former head of police, Lt Col Evrard Somda, has been abducted by unidentified gunmen. The incident took place at his residence in the capital Ouagadougou on Sunday. Sources close to Mr. Somda revealed this information, stating that he had been dismissed from his position in October, just a week after the detention of four police officers in connection with an alleged coup plot.

Recent times have seen an increase in reported kidnappings in Burkina Faso. In September, influential businessman Sansan Anselme Kambou, who had close ties to Mr. Somda, was abducted by intelligence agents. In December, former foreign minister Ablasse Ouedraogo faced a similar situation, taken by individuals claiming to be the police. The circumstances surrounding these incidents are a cause for concern in the West African nation.
