Recent reports shed light on a distressing incident in Millennium City, Kasoa, where a local chief allegedly fired gunshots resulting in the tragic killing of a military officer amidst a land dispute.

The incident has left the community in shock and raised concerns about the escalation of violence in conflicts over land ownership.

According to accounts from Accra-based Citi News, the altercation stemmed from a land dispute involving the brother of one of the military officers. Allegedly, the brother had purchased land from certain chiefs in Millennium City but faced fierce resistance from landguards whenever development efforts were made.

Attempting to resolve the conflict peacefully, the deceased military officer, accompanied by two colleagues, visited the disputed land. Despite previously reporting the issue to the Millennium City District Police Command, their attempts to address the situation were met with obstacles.

Upon arrival at the site in a Toyota Rav 4, they encountered individuals working on the land. As they sought to halt the activity and lodge a complaint at the District Police station, they were confronted by the Gyasehene of Millennium City, identified as Benlord Ababio.

Eyewitnesses recounted a tense exchange between the military officers and the chief, during which shots were allegedly fired at their vehicle from behind.

Tragically, one officer lost his life due to the gunfire, while the others escaped unharmed. The accused chief was promptly arrested at the scene and transferred to the Accra Division amid concerns of retaliation from local landguards.

The identity of the deceased officer remains undisclosed pending further investigation, leaving bystanders in shock and speculation rife about the incident’s root causes.

With official statements yet to be released, uncertainty prevails, fueling tensions in the community.
