The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the reopening of runway 18L/36R at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos after its temporary closure due to a Dana Air plane skidding off it on Tuesday.

FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection confirmed this development, stating that FAAN’s emergency response team promptly evacuated and recovered the aircraft. Comprehensive clearing operations were then conducted to ensure the runway was clear of any Foreign Object Debris (FOD) that could pose a safety risk.

Following a thorough inspection by FAAN’s Operations Division and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the runway was deemed safe for operations. An appropriate Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued accordingly.

Efforts were made to clean the muddy area affected by the overshoot to facilitate the swift resumption of operations on Runway 18L/36R. FAAN expressed gratitude to the public, airline partners, and stakeholders for their cooperation during the temporary closure and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

FAAN reiterated its commitment to providing a safe, secure, and efficient air transport environment for all airport users. The Dana Air plane, with registration number 5N-BKI, overshot the runway during its landing sequence.
