Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma, popularly known as Bovi, recently opened up about his child’s struggles with speech and communication issues, revealing that the child had broken their television three times.
In an interview, Bovi emphasized his stance against flogging children as a form of discipline. He explained that punishing children in such a manner often stems from frustration rather than a genuine intention to correct behavior.
Sharing a personal experience, he recounted how his child broke their TV multiple times, yet he chose not to punish them. This perspective sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians, with many expressing their views on social media.
Responding to critics on his X account, Bovi clarified his position, stating, “I’ve triggered angry people with my words. I used the phrase ‘for the fun of it,’ and it offended some. My father never physically disciplined me, and I turned out okay. If you want to beat your kids, that’s your choice.”
One fan, Mayowa Adedeji, argued that his approach to discipline might not be effective, saying, “If your child breaks three TVs, it means your method isn’t working. This isn’t about beating.”
Bovi responded by shedding light on his child’s situation, saying, “My child had a speech impediment and communication challenges, which are just starting to improve.”
The discussion highlights the broader debate on parenting styles and the role of discipline in raising children, with Bovi standing firm in his belief that understanding and patience are key.
