Floods caused by Monday night’s heavy rains in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, wrecked many homes and blocked off one of the main entrances to the city.
According to authorities, the devastation caused a third of the city to be without water and electricity. The majority of the fatalities occurred in landslide-prone hillside areas.

One of the capital cities in Africa with the highest population density is Kinshasa, which has around 15 million residents. Tuesday saw Prime Minister Sama Lukonde and City Governor Gentiny Ngobila visiting the damaged areas. The governor declared that the provincial government will cover all costs associated with the deceased’s funeral.
