Gabrielle Union, an American actress, has spoken openly about her first marriage to NFL player Chris Howard.
In an interview with the podcast “Armchair Expert,” the Hollywood beauty, who is currently married to NBA player Dwyane Wade, admitted that she was unfaithful in her marriage to Howard.
Gabrielle and Howard married in 2001, but the couple divorced in 2006. The 50-year-old mother of one claimed that her relationship with Howard was strained, and she accused the NFL player of cheating on her as well, adding that she “felt entitled” to adultery. “In my first marriage, neither of us felt like the marriage should get in the way of our dating,” she explained.
“So, following his activities, like, ‘Oh, that’s what you’re doing? You’re going to get a kick out of this one.’ And I just felt like I was entitled to it.”The actress stated that she felt it was her right to do whatever she pleased because she was the one footing the bill in the relationship. “I was working my a** off, and I felt like that’s what was going to happen, the spoils of riches,” she explained.
“Like my father before me, I assumed that whoever has the most gets to do whatever the hell they want. I wish I felt more remorse for some of it. “It was such a stupid relationship that should never have progressed past the dating stage.”Gabrielle went on to say that she chose infidelity because she was “hungry for validation and having certain kinds of guys who “like me and want me.”
“In retrospect, yes, I absolutely needed something from them that I wasn’t providing for myself, nor was my marriage, but I think I also provided for them,” she added. Gabrielle married Wade, 40, in 2014 after splitting up with Howard. The couple welcomed their first child, Kaavia, who is now four years old.
