The funeral of Liam Payne, former member of One Direction, is set to take place privately on Wednesday in southern England, according to reports. Payne tragically passed away on October 16 after falling from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires.
The 31-year-old’s sudden death sparked an emotional response worldwide, with fans, family, and his former bandmates paying heartfelt tributes. Vigils were held across various cities as admirers gathered to honor his memory.
Payne rose to global fame alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan as part of One Direction, the band formed on The X Factor in 2010. Despite his success, Payne had been open about his struggles with substance abuse and the pressures of early fame.
A post-mortem revealed that Payne died from “multiple traumas” and severe internal and external injuries caused by the fall. Hotel staff had reportedly contacted emergency services twice before his death, citing concerns about a guest who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol and had caused significant damage to a room.
The private ceremony will be attended by Payne’s family, close friends, and his former bandmates as they come together to bid him farewell.
