Gambians are mourning the death of Edrissa Marong, an international sprinter and 800m national record holder.
Marong, 27, passed away on Tuesday morning following a brief illness.
He competed for Gambia in international competitions such as the regional Ecowas Athletic Youth Championship.
“This tragic event occurred last night, following a brief illness. Today he will be laid to rest. Funeral arrangements will be communicated as they become available. “May his gentle soul rest in peace,” according to the Gambia Athletic Association.
