The stage is set for the District Level Elections (DLEs) scheduled for today, Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
A whopping 66,000 individuals are in the race for assembly and unit committee positions in the local polls.
According to the Electoral Commission’s data, there are 18,755 candidates for assembly member roles and 47,502 candidates for unit committee positions, making a total of 66,257 candidates.
This electoral arena spans 6,215 electoral areas, encompassing 216 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
Dr. Sereboe Quarcoo, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, assured Citi News that preparations are in full swing to ensure the smooth organization of the polls.
He emphasized that all necessary arrangements have been made to prevent any shortage of electoral materials at any polling station today.
“Except for ballot papers, all the materials are ready, and we ensure a complete delivery. So, we do not anticipate shortages. In the unlikely event of any shortages, the district office will promptly address such issues,” he added.
