Remembering a Talented Soul: OJ Blaq, the Ghanaian Icon.

In a somber moment, we bid farewell to a true talent – Ghanaian musician and actor, Andy Nii Akrashie, affectionately known as OJ Blaq. At the age of 40, OJ Blaq left this world on Thursday, August 17, 2023. The news of his passing was confirmed by those within the entertainment realm and the Empowerment Worship Center, where he had served as a junior pastor.

While the exact cause of his departure remains undisclosed, it’s known that OJ Blaq had been grappling with a kidney ailment for an extended period. As far back as 2021, he received a diagnosis for this condition and required regular dialysis treatment.

Though there were moments of improvement and a return to activity, his noticeable weight loss raised concerns among many. OJ Blaq was renowned for his unique style of rap and his knack for addressing crucial themes through his music.

Embarking on his musical journey in the early 2000s, he unveiled his debut album, “The Blaq Mixtape,” in 2006. His artistic journey unfolded further with numerous albums and singles, including his celebrated track “Chalewote.”

Beyond his musical prowess, OJ Blaq had an endearing presence as an actor, gracing the screens of many Ghanaian productions, notably the beloved ‘Suncity’ TV series.
