Ghana’s U20 women’s national team clinched gold at the 2023 African Games by staging an impressive comeback against Nigeria, securing a thrilling 2-1 victory in the final showdown on Thursday.

Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Black Princesses rallied in the second half, fueled by the spirited support of the home crowd at Cape Coast Stadium. Edeh Njideka’s early goal for the Falconets had put them in the lead, capitalizing on a mistake by Ghana’s goalkeeper Afi Amenyeku.

However, Yusif Basigi’s side found their rhythm after the break, with Tracey Twum’s stunning goal in the 77th minute drawing them level. The momentum swung in Ghana’s favor, culminating in a spectacular moment in the second half of extra time when Mukarama Abdulai broke free from her marker and unleashed a powerful shot from 30 yards, sealing victory for the hosts in the 99th minute.

This triumph marks Ghana’s 11th gold medal in the ongoing African Games, showcasing the nation’s prowess in women’s football.

The excitement continues as the hosts gear up for another potential gold medal in the men’s football competition. The Black Satellites will face Uganda in the final clash at Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, aiming to replicate the success of their female counterparts.
