Ghana’s Presidential Jet Grounded Over Severe Technical Faults — Defence Minister Confirms

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has revealed that Ghana’s presidential aircraft, the Dassault Falcon 900EX EASY, is currently out of service due to serious technical issues.

Addressing Parliament, Dr. Boamah explained that the aircraft has suffered extensive corrosion in multiple critical areas, making it unsafe for travel by the President, Vice President, or any top government official.

“This isn’t just a plane for the Executive,” the Minister noted. “It also serves the Legislature and other key government bodies. The level of corrosion we’ve discovered, especially in essential parts of the jet, is concerning.”

The repair process has been delayed, he added, because sourcing replacement parts has proven difficult. In one particular case, when it became clear that the turbofan needed a complete replacement due to corrosion, the manufacturer had no immediate spare available. “That tells you how rare this specific model’s parts are becoming,” he said.

After months of back-and-forth, a suitable replacement part was finally obtained and installed. However, Dr. Boamah warned that ongoing repairs continue to reveal new problems. “With each fix, new defects emerge. There’s no way to predict what may come next.”

The presidential jet has been undergoing a comprehensive 24-month/1,600-flight-hour inspection in Le Bourget, France, since March 11, 2025. Its return to Ghana has been postponed several times due to the scale of the issues discovered during the inspection.

The latest update suggests the aircraft may finally be ready by July 31, but even that timeline remains tentative, pending successful resolution of all remaining technical concerns.
