Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has shared some insightful advice with comedian-turned-filmmaker Basketmouth as he prepares to release his debut movie, A Ghetto Love Story.
Taking to Instagram, RMD congratulated Basketmouth on taking a bold step into the world of filmmaking but reminded him that it takes more than just talent to succeed in the industry. He emphasized the importance of learning from those who have already made a name for themselves.
RMD encouraged Basketmouth to seek guidance from established filmmakers like Funke Akindele, Mo Abudu, AY Makun, and Kunle Afolayan, all of whom have successfully carved their path in Nollywood.
He said, “Congrats on your new film, A Ghetto Love Story. I thought I should reach out and give you a little advice. You’re stepping into a space where others have already made their mark, so take the time to learn from them.
“This isn’t comedy; it’s filmmaking. You need to approach it differently. Connect with those who are already dominating the scene, like Funke, Mo, AY, and Kunle. They can share invaluable knowledge. Comedy will have its place, but first, pay your respects to the veterans in the game.”
RMD’s words are a reminder that while talent is important, collaboration and mentorship are key to thriving in a competitive industry like filmmaking.
