Disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein made his first court appearance in New York since his rape and sexual assault convictions were overturned. Weinstein, visibly frail and in a wheelchair, appeared in a Manhattan courtroom, smiling and waving at supporters.
Prosecutors stated their commitment to seeking justice again in the case, with accuser Jessica Mann present in court. Despite expectations that Weinstein’s convictions in the state would be vacated, he remained in custody due to an unchanged conviction in California.
Weinstein’s conviction in New York was overturned due to errors in admitting certain testimonies, leading to indications from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office that they will pursue a retrial. Weinstein’s legal team emphasized the importance of a fair trial and indicated plans to appeal the California conviction.
