Ghana mourns the loss of the esteemed gospel artist Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, affectionately known as “KODA,” who passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the age of 45.

According to reports from Metro TV Ghana, KODA succumbed to a brief illness in the early hours of the day, leaving behind a profound legacy in the music industry.

KODA was known not only for his musical talents but also for his openness about his health struggles, particularly his battle with G6PD deficiency. In a poignant video circulating on social media following his demise, he recounted a harrowing experience at an undisclosed Takoradi hospital where he received incorrect medication for his condition.

Reflecting on the incident, he emphasized how it spurred him to be more vigilant about his health. Recalling the ordeal around 2016, he shared, “I began experiencing peculiar symptoms after being treated for about two days and discharged. So, I took the initiative to research the medication prescribed to me and discovered it contained a Sulphur-based component, which posed a risk due to my G6PD condition.”

Expressing his disbelief, he continued, “Sulphur is a known trigger for my condition. I questioned why I was given such medication for nearly 6 to 8 months. Were they trying to harm me?!” Upon confronting the medical staff, they acknowledged the error and apologized.

This incident heightened KODA’s curiosity regarding the accuracy of medical diagnoses and prescriptions, underscoring the importance of healthcare awareness and patient advocacy.

KODA, a renowned gospel singer, songwriter, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Takoradi, Ghana, made significant contributions to the contemporary gospel music scene. His impactful collaborations with esteemed artists such as the late Danny Nettey, Pastor Joe Beechem, Nii Okai, Halal Afrika, Eugene Zuta, among others, solidify his enduring legacy as a versatile and influential figure in Ghanaian gospel music.
