President Bola Tinubu has mourned the passing of Dr. Christopher Kolade, describing it as a deeply painful loss to the nation.

In a heartfelt message issued on Thursday, the President said he received the news of Kolade’s death “with profound sadness,” calling him one of Nigeria’s most admirable and principled figures.

Dr. Kolade, a respected broadcaster, diplomat, and corporate leader, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 92, his family confirmed. The late statesman had served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and as Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, among several other distinguished roles.

In his tribute, President Tinubu hailed Kolade as a man of rare integrity and brilliance who dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria and humanity.

“Dr. Christopher Kolade was a national treasure — a man of intellect, honour, and unwavering values,” the President wrote. “He served our country with honesty and diligence, leaving lasting marks of excellence wherever he went.”

Tinubu praised Kolade’s extraordinary contributions to business leadership and good governance, noting his influential role at the Lagos Business School and his lifelong advocacy for transparency and accountability.

“From his early days as an education officer during the colonial era to his time as Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation and later as High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Kolade exemplified service built on integrity and humility,” Tinubu added.

The President also recalled Kolade’s philanthropic efforts through the Christopher Kolade Foundation, particularly his support for sickle cell patients and other humanitarian causes.

“His passing is painful, but his life is one to be celebrated,” Tinubu said. “He lived with purpose, served with compassion, and inspired generations. Nigeria has lost one of its finest, but his values and legacy will continue to guide us.”

He concluded his message with a prayer:

“May God Almighty, whom he served faithfully, grant him eternal rest and comfort his family and loved ones.”
