Ruger Reveals Plans to Settle Down and Shares Thoughts on the Music Industry

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Michael Adebayo Olayinka, better known as Ruger, has hinted at taking a major step in his personal life—marriage.

The ‘Toma Toma’ hitmaker shared his thoughts via Snapchat, revealing that attending multiple weddings has made him reflect on his lifestyle. Feeling the urge to embrace commitment, Ruger stated that he’s ready to settle down this year.

“Everyone’s getting married. It’s making me think—how long will I keep up this playboy life? I’m settling down this year, period. I’ll soon be 30,” he wrote.

Ruger Speaks on the Nigerian Music Industry

In another post, Ruger expressed frustration with the current state of the Nigerian music scene. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he voiced concerns over how artists with minimal talent are gaining widespread recognition simply through heavy promotion.

He highlighted the growing use of autotune during live performances, calling out artists who rely on it even when speaking on stage.

“The music industry is frustrating because no matter how untalented an artist is, if there’s enough money for hype, they blow,” Ruger stated.

“Also, the autotune on the mic during performances needs to stop. Next time, tell your engineer to turn it off when you speak—because some of you sound like a whole melody even when you’re just talking. Ruger doesn’t need that, thank you.”

His statements have sparked conversations among fans and industry insiders, with many weighing in on his take about the evolving music landscape.
