According to the UN, Eritrea’s human rights record remains dire and shows no signs of improvement.

The UN’s deputy high commissioner for human rights, Nada Al-Nashif, said the withdrawal of Eritrean troops from Ethiopia’s northern region of Tigray was “very slow” and “largely incomplete”.

According to her, credible reports of torture, arbitrary detention, and enforced disappearances exist.

Eritrea’s President, Isaias Afwerki, recently described such accusations as fictitious.

During the Tigray war, it is estimated that 600,000 people died.
